PERSONAL INFORMATION

Card Holder Security

Millions of ID cards, student IDs, access badges, visitor passes, government services cards, bank cards and driver’s licenses are printed everyday using dye-sublimation printers and ink ribbons. Though the technology is convenient, fast, and inexpensive, it does leave a potential security vulnerability – used dye sublimation ribbons and identity theft .

Used ink ribbons hold negative images of sensitive and personal information that was printed on the card and this personal information must be destroyed responsibly.  HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) both require relevant organizations take responsibility for their card holders’ critical data such as names, addresses, and identification/account numbers.

Typically, an ink ribbon is discarded in a trash bin and will eventually end up in an incinerator or landfill. But, along the way a thief could easily retrieve the used dye sublimation ribbon and, using the printed information, duplicate cards.

To combat this, IDP has invented the industry’s ONLY dye-sublimation ink ribbon shredding technology called the SMART-Bit Ribbon Shredder.  The first thing that you’ll notice about the SMART-Bit is its small footprint and ease of use.  It’s compatible with all the industry’s popular ink ribbons. And boasts the patented twist and cut technology that will completely shred personal information remaining on ink ribbons after printing.

The SMART-Bit shredding technology is affordable and simple insurance to guard against fraudulent reproduction of your cards and your holders’ information.
